I doubt very much Macbook is getting updates at the same time Pro Models do. Thats not how Apple operates. First the pro models will be updated then that tech will show up months later in Macbook with some crippling like in Gpu.

Exactly! That's why the iMacs didn't get the Intel procssors until 7 months after the Mac Pros, right?

No kidding! My Mom's XP did the same thing. Sony's answer? Reformat and reinstall.

This debate could (and will) go on forever. I consider myself a cross-platform guy. Pretty knowledgeable about tech stuff. I just got done posting a WinTel vs. Apple comment in another forum.

It all boils down to this:

I'm building a new PC out of some spare parts and a few upgrades... to play around with. To use for some stuff. And no, not games. Some legal software (I'm not paying twice).

But I'm saving up to buy a nice Mac in a few months (come on 970) to use. To work on. Audio/Video/Imaging. I know you can do those on a PC. But why would you want to?

    I mean, really. Why?

I'd rather have secure and acurate than cheap and (sometimes) a little more speed.

I get notifications, but no sound..

Does anyone know if the sync will add new contacts to your phone/fb or if it just syncs data for the existing phone contacts?

Doesn't add new contacts - just amends existing ones.

Not enough to justify the non-inclusion of LTE/4G.

Two years from now, you'll be wishing you had faster access to streaming content (the mythical "cloud") than a bit more processing power to play a game that was designed to be playable on the iPhone 4 anyway.

I justified in my post why LTE/4G is not good for the next revision. Make an argument against that statement.

Beside, two years from now I'll be wishing nothing. 3G is good enough for browsing and I get WiFi in my house, at work and university. Two years from now, is two iPhone revisions. Most people don't even use SmartPhones, nor they care and the iPhone has the highest reselling value in hardware. So what should I be wishing for?

I wonder if they'll do a version of the ad with the female camera that speaks Japanese, but make her an American camera that speaks English. :-)

A gas tax is the way to go for most of the country, but I do believe that in some urban areas, a mileage tax may work. London's congestion charge was effective in reducing gridlock there.

Insurance rates based on mileage driven are also gaining traction.

One thing is for sure, the highway lobby is spending way more money than is available from gas taxes. It's time to rein them in. Most importantly, it's time to stop allowing housing developments to spring up without transit links.

DUI checkpoints are unreasonable searches lacking probable cause. Any push back is reasonable and any support of them should be criminally prosecuted. Too bad they never prosecute themselves. We have lost our "right to liberty". Period.

So, I'm assuming 1.5 will not be available today but in October?? I wonder if the stolen RED VC has anything to do with macrumors RED announcement & Apple, though they thought it had to do with BONO and not with Oakley RED.

Computers and phones isn't the same thing. I could see them doing it with the iPad since its a computer but I honestly can't see them doing it with the iPhone. Might they change the size of the screen for the next iPhone? Yes. Will they sell two models with different screen sizes? No.

I think that apple's past success in expanding their ranges, specifically with iPods, has been their ability to market different models slightly differently. Look at the ipod mini, essentially the same as the original iPod, only smaller, but marketed as a cool new apple product in different colours that is more affordable. I don't see any reason why this strategy cannot be applied to phones. They wouldn't really have to do very much at all for this to work apart from make a good quality product. New apple product = hype = sales. I think that this is more true now than it ever has been.

There are two things going on here, that are very different:

Apple cannot own the word "pod." Sorry guys, you built your brand on a regular 'ol common word. Apple derived a benefit from using an existing word as part of their product name and they can't just turn that around and take the whole damn word for themselves. They could have called it the "iKerbock" you know, and they'd now own "kerbock." But then, they wouldn't have sold as many iKerbocks as iPods, I'd bet.

However, iPod is Apple's word and they should clearly be able to stop people from using it, especially in an mp3 playing context.

    podcast - public domain word
iPodcast - infriges on Apple's trademark.

To put it another way: If Apple can decide to own the word pod, what other words can be owned?

Your iPhone maintains a maximum of 1 active connection to receive push notifications.

The amount you receive and number of applications that send them to you have very little effect - other than to keep turning your screen on.

From what I saw, I wouldn't assume that it's included, but perhaps just a quick mention of the Server version having some new changes. Perhaps someone in the dev program will be able to shed more light, though.

I just downloaded the latest Garage Band for my MBP. Upon trying to use certain instruments it gives me some message about "the instrument or loop you've selected is not currently installed on your machine. Would you like to download and install all of the Garage Band instruments and loops at this time?"

Well, I've now downloaded and installed the additional content THREE times and STILL....every single time I reopen GB and try to use one of those instruments, I get the EXACT SAME MESSAGE!....

How many times does one have to download and install Apple software before your Apple computer acknowledges that you've done so?:(

I've tried to request a refund for the whole damn app, as this aggravation has now soured me on the program in total. However, every single time I try to report a problem to the app store, Apple has totally changed the site, the way you file a complaint is different, the screens are different, the hoops they make you jump through are different, the options on offer are different...blah, blah, blah.

This feels like a deliberate attempt to just wear unhappy customers down and just get them to give up and go away. Now there's some absurd, Twitter style character limit window that you have to type your problem into? WTF? How rude and dismissive? All their bs about being "easy and intuitive and user friendly" goes out the window when you want to make a complaint or simply ask a question, THEN it's an ever changing minefield of screens, buttons, and dead ends.:apple:

I've been an Apple owner/user for 1.5 years now and this is just another example of why it's been 1.5 years of total and utter frustration and dissatisfaction with my MBP and this company.

    Hellhammer:

Ivy Bridge's IGP will have 16 EUs (compared to 12 in SB IGP) along with DirectX 11 and OpenCL 1.1 support. If the clock speeds stay the same, then it would be around 50% faster than the current one, although that isn't that big of an upgrade. Thanks for the clarification, you're great! So if the ULV HD3000 performs at 50% of MBP 13", and if IB speeds up the HD 3000 by 50% this will mean MBA IB HD 3000 will run @75% of the speed of 2011 MBP 13". So, I am actually quite right unless Intel develops a new IGP there is a thick chance people will bash on IB MBA, too.

because yes its certain that by ivy bridge, a better igp would be available but also you can look at it from another pov wherein even a sandybridge CPU upgrade is not substantial enough

I agree with you bump in processor speed won't be the key point to entice people to buy a SB MBA - there should be something more, either larger SSD storage for the same amount of money, or connectivity (TB) or better display, or better battery, or all of them. Providing incremental upgrade in speed is obviously not what the so called 'average user' need in an MBA - so many topics there are on the subject on MR.

Luckily none of you have a Mac Pro with build 8K1079. It is complete *****. Build 8K1079 is horrible, hell-half of System Preferences doesn't work, Rosetta can't keep PPC apps open, can't plug in some USB devices, can't restart without holding power button down, the curtain of death happens.....a lot. So many problems with build 8K1079 that we don't/can't use it at work here.

    Dear Adobe,

START FOCUSING ON CS APPS! Damn... My mac mini g4 works faster converting my raw to jpeg files than my c2d iMac! I know you need to compete with Apple... but focus on your current products that are in need of updating to Universal code for the professionals that rely on them!

    Thanks,

I checked the update pace for Mac OS X 10.4.
    29/04/2005: 10.4.0
    17/05/2005: 10.4.1 (+ 18 days)
    12/07/2005: 10.4.2 (+ 26 days)
    31/10/2005: 10.4.3 (+ 111 days)
    11/01/2006: 10.4.4 (+ 72 days)
    14/02/2006: 10.4.5 (+ 34 days)
    03/04/2006: 10.4.6 (+ 48 days)
    27/06/2006: 10.4.7 (+ 85 days)
    27/09/2006 (today) + 92 days

Soon we'll have 10.4.8, and then probably around 3 months later 10.4.9 (January?). I doubt Apple will release 10.4.10, they could but I don't think they ever did it with another OS.

I thought first that it could mean that Leopard would be early, but I don't think so (spring 2007 is March 21 - June 21).They Can Aways Resort To 10.4.9.1, 10.4.9.2 Etc.

I'm not claiming to say that these ads have hurt or helped boost the market shares...I'm only saying that I have only heard negative things about them.

    I feel embarrassed watching them.

I personally believe that the market share has risen because of the intel switch. The ads happened to come out at the same time so it's impossible to know how they've affected the market share, but either way I really don't like them. It's not the actors either... definitely the elitist script.

I like that Shaun White ad where he narrates what he does with his computer and this stunt guy (you can only see his torso) is reaching and grabbing at nothing that was edited later to appear as if what he was grabbing at were his folders/documents/songs/etc... Pretty clever. And no snobbishness (yeah that word rocks) either.

Did I mention I like Ellen Feiss?

I don't think the Apple ads are elitist or snobish, however I do think the HP ads are very cool. By showing what the computer can do in a slick, sci-fiction way, the ads sell the HP computer in a way that the Mac vs. PC ads don't
If Apple's seeing increasing market-share it because they're finally trying to sell the computer and it's this ad presence that is working. The commercials' content doesn't really work, but only die-hard geeks can really get fired up for these commercials.
For Joe Sixpack, the commercials remind him that Mac exist, they're cool and they do neat stuff. And that's the good part.

The bad part is some people think they're being insulted, and some of those people will matter when it's time to buy a computer.

Apple should've gone the HP way, show how cool the computer is and stop mentioning the PC at all.

However, during WWDC, take a shovel to Microsoft is so inclined, that's a time to stir the troops into a fury.
