I've seen the blue screen on XP. It's funny because I've been told by Windows users that it doesn't exist in XP, yet I witnessed it two weeks ago when a colleague of mine was trying to do something with Adobe Acrobat. The program just spazzed and the blue screen came up.
Entirely possible, but not necessarily a problem with XP. The operating system will immediately blue screen if an application attempts to write into an illegal memory area, which I've seem Acrobat do, and a Java application that used a native dll. I believe it's a security feature built into newer processors.

The MS tactic will probably be the same as the one they used to defeat IBM, Apple and Palm; just keep throwing money at it, make gradual improvements until the competition makes a huge gaff and falls flat on it's face. They don't actually win; everyone else just kind of ... loses.
They've come from way behind before (remember when Palm had 90% of the PDA market) and ended up on top, but rarely on their own merits. Apple just has to keep up the marketing and keep adding value to the brand, and that should be enough to keep them ahead.

On the flip side, the iOS platform generates 1.4 billion dollars per quarter through the iTunes store for Apple.
Google hasn't found a way to significantly capitalize on Androids market share and that is a major loss. Hell, Google could take over the other 30% of the market held by RIM/ect. and the yearly Android revenue would still be below Apples quarterly revenue for the iOS platform.

Wow, things sure are crazy. Good luck to those who still need one. I was kicking myself for ordering after it had slipped to 2 weeks, but now that it's at 5 weeks I feel a bit better. :D

Also, though I know none of them read Macrumors, I'd like to sneak a moment of catharsis by sending out a big karmic f_ck you to all the scalpers who stood in line on Friday and bought out all the GSM models to ship and sell them overseas.
Anyway, off to order my GSM version online, and then to enjoy my Verizon white 32GB at work while I'm not drafting contracts & wills.

If I worked there I would have stopped it. The employees there handled that situation the wrong way. They should have at least separated the people fighting. They didn't do anything besides saying stop. What is that going to do?
Sadly, that's company policy. Had any of those people had a gun and an employee was shot or stabbed with a knife the company would have quite a lawsuit on their hands. If the employees intervened further they would likely have lost their jobs.
When I worked retail I was told I would be fired if I chased a shoplifter out of the store.

You can say you made the 8% prediction, but why don't you back it up with some proof? I can say that I predicted Apple would release software to dual boot an Intel Mac but without proof who would believe me?

Innovation: just what happened to Apple's innovative spirit when it comes to computers? The latest Mac Pro was fitted into the existing (and way oversized) G5 case. The MacBook was disappointing in that - proportionally - Apple did not shrink it at all or make it lighter than its predecessor (a design which had been in existence for about four years). There are more things, but I really don't want to sound like a troll here...
Apple needs to come out with new computer models that are unlike anything else out there. What about a tiny, thin ultraportable? What about a smaller tower,
An ultra portable or headless tower is innovation? The world is full of them. On the other hand, Front Row, Boot Camp, built-in iSight, Mag-safe connector, mighty mouse, much more bang for the buck iMacs, laptops and MacPro's do not count. As I remember, this time last year almost everybody was complaining about "obsolete" G4's in laptops and the limited number of hard drive and optical drive slots on the PowerMacs. I guess solving those problems does not count.
iPods is the cash cow and what did Apple do about it? Well, colorful nanos are cool, but I prefer a white one anyways. I'd think iPod camp would have a lot more to complain about. Geez...

Number 2 above is one of the reasons that it would be difficult to move to a larger venue. It might accommodate more people, but the real value is getting to talk with Apple engineers and ask questions. If they made the venue larger, your chances of getting to talk with them becomes slim. You know, considering that the other countries are getting it in a little over a week, I think the chances of getting on in a store are pretty slim. It sounds like stores are only getting a handful of models, and for the past 2 days in a row, all of the stores I've called around here have only received 64GB Verizon models if anything.
It REALLY sucks that I've got to wait 3 weeks for my white iPad to ship, but honestly at this point I think that's going to be shorter than trying to wait it out for one at the store.
I just wish I'd lined up at the Brea Mall store at like, 5AM. :/
Gah dont remind me. I want to go get in line tomorrow at 6 somewhere, but, meh. Ill probably end up at Fashion Island early Saturday and or Sunday.
EDIT: Seems like Irvine and Fashion island are opening early. Ill be going to Fashion Island tomorrow...early... :D
